Rain Man

This was one of the toughest movie to me, I needed three breaks during this movie. Tom Cruise was playing very well, but I personally hated his  character, Charlie Babbitt, the kind of guy who was full of arrogance, selfish and very materialistic. Although, the most incredible was Dustin Hoffman, who plaid the main character - Charlie's (Tom Cruise) older brother Raymond Babbit, an autistic. Incredible acting, this role was nominated and won so many World known awards, which one of them was Oscar winner for Best Actor in a Leading Role. 

The movie "Rain Man" also received awards in those categories: Oscar for best Picture ( Mark Johnson), Best Director ( Barry Levinson), Best Writing/Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen (Ronald Bass-screenplay, Barry Morrow-screenplay/story), Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture (Dustin Hoffman)...

Tom Cruise had the huge responsibility to play a strong part in this movie beside the experienced Dustin Hoffman,whose the character was very sensitive and in need of his younger brother's (Tom Cruise) support. There are two controversial characters: Charlie a young ambitious man, very impulsive and also very egocentric person. Raymond, who was autistic, he wasn't used to strict behavior and changes in the routine of his life, even though with an amazing talent to memorize things that surround him.

It's a life story of Charlie Rabbit (Tom Cruise) whose father recently died and donated all his $3,000 000 to an autistic hospital, where Charlie discovered that he had an older brother (Dustin Hoffman) who was suffering from that illness. Charlie creates his selfish plan to get a part of this money back, kidnapping his brother, but it wouldn't be counted as a kidnap, because Charlie had the legal right from him. They are going into a journey an get to know each other.

What is the most important: money,that will never be enough, or family that could provide love and care?

The Hours

Another movie, I'm proud to introduce, one of my favorite -The Hours, directed by Stephen Dardly. The movie that was nominated: Academy Awards for Best Picture (Scott Rudin and Robert Fox), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Ed Harris), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Julienne Moore), Best Director (Stephen Daldry), Best Writing/Adapted Screenplay (David Hare), Best Costume Design (Ann Roth), Best Film Editing (Peter Boyle) , Best Music/Original Score (Philip Glass) and the winner for the Best Actress in a Leading Role by Nicole Kidman and this is only Academy nominations ,there are many more prestige nominations and awards that would take a long time to mention all of them. In my memories from 11 years ago when I got stuck watching live stream of the 75'th Academy Award ceremony in the middle of the night al and I was hoping that this movie could win a lot of Oscras . It was the time when many good movies were nominated. I was very proud of Nicole Kidman when she receive her first Oscar for the Best Actress in a leading role, she really deserve it. She got so deep into the character that you could hardly say that was Nicole.

The Hours- it's a story about three women life's:

Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman) 1923, she was writing her last novel 'Mrs. Dalloway. She lived in her imagination world, isolated from everybody, suffering from being locked in her house, guarded by servants, far away from London. 

Laura Brown (Julianne Moore) 1951, she was in her second pregnancy. It seamed Laura had everything to be happy: husband, who adored her, son, who couldn't be without her, expecting for one more family member, but deep inside she was not. Laura wanted to commit a suicide, but she wasn't brave enough to kill her self and the fetus she was caring, so she decided to wait till the baby comes to this wold and after disappear.

Clarissa Vaughan (Meryl Streep) lives in 2001, she was planning a very special party to her best friend who just won an award for his poem,  it was also very special to her because this person meant a lot. Clarissa lived in partnership with her girlfriend Sally (Allison Janney),she always had strong feelings for her best friend Richard (Ed Harris), but it was always a mystery to discoverewhat kind feeling was that. 

Three women living in a different time but related to each other: one was a writer, second -the reader and the third one was who lived the story.

The best trio: Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Julian Moore, three talented and strong actress in one beautiful biography story about famous writer Virginia Woolf. Also staring: Ed Harris, Toni Collette, Claire Danes, Jeff Daniels, Allison Janney and John C. Reilly.

I find something incredibly deep and interesting about this movie,with a lot of psychological mistress.

When Harry Met Sally...

Make some popcorns, if you are allowed, have a glass of wine, sit comfortably and enjoy this nice romantic movie. I guarantee you won't be bored, there are so many comedy scenes that will make you laugh out loud. 

It is not often this type of movies get so many nominations and awards,"When Harry met Sally..." should be proud with countless of them: Oscar nominee for Best Writing ( Nora Ephron), Golden Globe nominee for Best Motion Picture, Best Director( Rob Reiner), Best Performance by an Actress (Meg Ryan), Best Performance by an Actor (Billy Crystal) and Best Screenplay, The Best Screenplay winner of the  BAFTA Film awards...

HARRY ( Billy Crystal)

"That's not true. I have a number of men friends and there's no sex involved"

It's a story about two different people- Harry (Billy Crystal) who has a very strong opinion about relationship between man and woman and his opposite- Sally (Meg Ryan ) is open mind,  thinks that friendship between opposite sex is very common thing. There is obviously a strong connection between each other but they never show it, both are trying to hide their feelings, because they know each other for many years and they manage to built a strong friendship. As you can see it is not only friendship between them, will it develop to something more? 

There is a very famous Meg Ryan role in this movie, in my point of view, her break through performance that made her huge, is the scene when Sally and Harry are in a diner and she wants to prove that women can fake an orgasm pretty well. So she imitates it in front of Harry and  other  people around. It's magnificent scene with superb comedy elements at the end.

Beautiful soundtrack, perfectly suits this movie, by Louis Armstong :

Wait a bit, it's a beautiful movie to watch on Christmas Eve.
